EPA Repeals Endangerment Finding, Plunging U.S. into Climate Chaos

On Tuesday February 12th, 2026, President Trump and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced the repeal of the landmark 2009 Endangerment Finding. This is the biggest environmental protection rollback in U.S. history. It eliminates the EPA's regulatory authority to fight climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from sources like cars, trucks, and power plants.
Protect PT stands with frontline residents in the shale fields of Southwestern Pennsylvania to strongly oppose this repeal, which panders to large corporate interests and puts fringe ideology above scientific consensus that has been affirmed time and time again. Climate change is happening now, and ignoring this fact will not make it any less real. The Endangerment Finding is a necessary update to the Clean Air Act that enables the EPA to more effectively and accurately fulfill its goal of protecting public health and welfare.
Without this landmark decision, our communities will face a dire threat. Residents across our nation are already being impacted by heat waves, increased drought, severe wildfires, disease spread, and natural disasters. Removing the EPA’s ability to regulate greenhouse gas emissions will undermine existing progress to improve efficiency, adapt our economy, protect public health, and mitigate the wide-ranging effects of climate change. As the rest of the world moves forward with reducing emissions and building clean energy sources, the Trump administration seems determined to make America lag behind, choosing to regress and stagnate instead of forging a better future. More pollution will lead directly to more climate chaos. It lets polluters get richer while we pay the price – with our health, our wallets, and our lives.
Here at Protect PT, we will work as hard as we can to push back on this repeal and secure better protections for our people and planet. You can join us by writing to Congress to urge them to take action to hold the EPA accountable for this dangerous decision at https://protectpt.info/endangerment
Climate can't wait. And neither will we.
