Kiara Jimenez
Project Coordinator and Communications Manager '23-'24

About: Kiara always knew she wanted to protect environmental/health rights. After graduating from Pitt in 2023, she searched for entry level environmental nonprofit positions and was thrilled to see an opening at Protect PT. She joined the team as a Project Coordinator in the summer of 2023 and was later that year internally promoted to Communications Manager. Kiara left the Protect PT team in the Summer of 2024 to earn her law degree at the University of Virginia School of Law.

Quote: While I am very excited for this next step in my career, I am incredibly grateful for my time on the Protect PT team. My experience here has been eminently fulfilling. Every person on the small full-time staff is deeply committed to public service and abundantly passionate about protecting community members' rights to accessing clean air and water. My coworkers come from diverse backgrounds, making each of us an expert in our department. The intimacy of the office has allowed me, despite being situated as the head of the Communications Team, to glean so much knowledge from our Legal, Policy, and Science Teams that I will carry with me into my career.

I would like to give a personal shoutout to Protect PT’s Executive Director, Gillian Graber. Her capacity for warmth and empathy is bountiful, and she puts a love for people into all that she does. Her fight–from being an affected resident and mother to Co-Founder and Executive Director of her own nonprofit–is inspiring to say the least. I am so thankful to have worked under her, and I look forward to future collaborations with her in the future. Thank you to Gillian and the team for making my time at Protect PT so rewarding!”
