Several important meetings are scheduled for Penn township residents in February where public is crucial.
Tuesday, February 2nd @ 7:00pm Planning & Zoning Meeting
Important: Prelimiary approval for land development of ALLUnconventional Well Applications in Penn Township (see agenda)
On February 2nd, 2016 at 7:00pm, the Penn Township Planning and Zoning Commission intends to provide preliminary approval of the land development applications for all 7 recently proposed unconventional gas well pads in Penn Township’s agricultural zone. In December, the same board found all 7 of the land development applications to be incomplete. “With state DEP permits and a decision from the Zoning Hearing Board still pending we are unsure about why they would choose to approve all seven these land development applications, even preliminarily. They are once again putting the cart before the horse, said Gillian Graber, president of Protect PT.
Initially township residents were told by the township that the February meeting would be focused on the public roll out of the pending ordinance, something that was initially supposed to be rolled out in January after 15 months under pending status. As the agenda on the township website indicates, the committee will be voting on preliminary approval of land development instead. “We are concerned that Penn Township is preventing people from having an adequate opportunity to weigh in on these voluminous and highly technical applications that are all being considered simultaneously. By doing this, the township is fostering distrust. Honesty and transparency is all we ask for and we are getting the opposite”, said Mrs. Graber.
The local government has a duty to ensure no harm is done to the public and to give truthful and accurate information about future gas development in Penn Township. We urge residents to attend the Planning and Zoning meeting, address concerns important to them, and participate in the governmental process.
