Getting to Know The Process

Reminder of Tonight's Zoning Hearing Board

Tonight, January 14th the first Zoning Board Hearing for the Beattie Well will begin at 7:30pm.

Getting to know the process

Under the Penn Township pending ordinance, unconventional gas development is a Special Exception use in the Mineral Extraction Overlay district, where all of the 7 new permits are to be located.

What Does This Mean?

The township has stated that each well must first go through a Zoning Board Hearing for Special Exception Approval.  These hearings are held each month on the 2nd Thursday of the month.  The drilling company representatives will testify during this process, and those who believe they would be negatively impacted by the well can request to testify.  At some point, there will be time for general public comment in which anyone can participate.

The Zoning Hearing Board will base its decision on what is said at these hearings, so if you want to communicate your concerns, please participate!

After the hearing is complete the ZHB will make their decision; it is sometimes necessary for the ZHB to hold more than one hearing before deciding.

Current Scheduled Hearings: January 14th, 2016 @ 7:30pm, February 11th, 2016 @ 7:30pm  - We will be told if additional hearings will be scheduled

What’s next?

After approval from the ZHB the permit will go for approval for land development.  This will be accomplished by first going to Planning and Zoning Board.  Meetings are the 1st Tuesday of the month – these meetings are for discussion and voting.  P&Z makes non-binding recommendations to commissioners regarding subdivisions, land development, zone changes/modifications, commercial site development plans. Recommendations are voted on at Commissioner Business Meeting.  We will update members and supporters on when these meetings will take place.

Zoning Hearing Board public meetings held at the Municipal Building located at 2001 Municipal Court Harrison City, PA 15636.
