Recently Penn Township received seven (7) unconventional well submissions from Apex Energy

Recently Penn Township received seven (7) unconventional well submissions from Apex Energy.  Four wells are located in the Level Green area of the Township and Three are east of Kewtown and near Claridge.  These well locations are:


Level Green Area

Deutsch Well Pad - Unconventional Well Site six (6) well @ -1291 Saunders Station Road, Trafford, PA 15085

Drakulic Well Pad - Unconventional Well Site ten (10) well @ - 1059 First Street, Trafford, PA 15085

Numis Well Pad (Pleasant Valley and Beulah Road intersection, 136 acres)

Backus Well Pad Top Shop Manufacturing (Sedona Lane and Meadowbrook, 70 acres)


Claridge Area

White Well Pad (located off Claridge/Elliott Road, 39 acres)

Beattie Central Pad- Unconventional Well Site nine (9) wells @ - 1122 Dutch Hollow Road, Jeannette. PA 15644 (south of the intersection with Lux Road)

Draftina Central Pad - Unconventional Well Site five (5) well @ - 1051 Dutch Hollow Road, Jeannette PA 15644 (at the Slack Road intersection)


These sites are all zoned Rural Resource (historically known as agricultural, mixed residential) and are covered by the Mineral Extraction Overlay (MEO) district part of the ordinance that is pending with the township.  If and when the submissions are deemed complete the process of township review will begin.  The ZHB will review them first individually as Special Exceptions.

Tell The Commissioners

SAY NO to the MEO! Do not allow industrial activities in non-industrial zones


DEMAND greater setbacks – currently wells can be drilled within 600ft. of a home, school, nursing home or any other structure.  It is documented that air pollution occurs within a few miles away from a site, the most saturated pollution being closest to the site.


DEMAND better restrictions on noise pollution and clarifications in the ordinance.


You have property rights too, and expect clean air and water.  You also have an investment backed expectation and drilling can affect your property value.
