Protect PT Hosts Fundraiser to Support Legal Challenge of Drilling Decision

April 22, 2015

Protect PT is launching a fundraising campaign Saturday to raise money for a legal appeal of the Penn Township Zoning Hearing Board approval of a well pad site.

Saturday’s free event will feature a screening of Triple Divide, a 90-minute documentary that speaks to all sides of the fracking debate in Pennsylvania. The event will take place at Level Green Community Building 123 Murrysville Road, Trafford, PA 15085. Doors will open at 6 PM with the screening set for 7 PM.

Protect PT will use money raised to fund a legal challenge of the Penn Township Zoning Hearing Board’s recent approval of Apex Energy’s special exception request to conduct unconventional shale gas drilling on the Quest site.

“We are hoping for an outpouring of community support for this appeal through our public education and fundraising event,” said Protect PT President Gillian Graber.

Along with the event, the group is asking for help raising legal funds through a GoFundMe campaign:

“While we respect property owner’s rights, Article 27 of the PA Constitution states that we have the ‘right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment’, we are just trying to preserve these rights for our community”, says Graber.

Triple Divide is said be the only documentary on the controversial subject of fracking that speaks to all sides, with interviews from the industry, experts (i.e. geologists, hydrologists, former regulators, attorneys), and the citizens impacted by shale gas development.  The 90-minute film reveals the evidence gathered from an in-depth investigation of how the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the shale gas industry are handling impacts from fracking.  The film’s 10 chapters cover areas such as waste disposal, drinking water contamination, split-estates, the pre-drill test scandal, and the pressure bulb.

The filmmakers, Joshua Pribanic and Melissa Troutman will be on hand to answer questions and provide an update on what has been happening since the film’s release two years ago as well as discuss their on-going investigations and new projects.
