North Huntingdon

Do you live in North Huntingdon Township?

Apex Energy is pressing North Huntingdon Township to approve a subsurface fracking lease a quarter of a mile away from Indian Lake Park.

A notorious regulation violator, Apex Energy was flagged for 113 violations between 2018 and 2023. These violations indicate that Apex does not care to follow the rules and regulations that keep us safe.

Apex Energy has tried to pressure the Commissioners to agree to the lease by rushing the public process. It will come up for a final vote on Wednesday, July 17 2024 at 7:00 PM.

In a public meeting on July 11, Apex Energy's landman admitted that the company had misled the Township when it insisted there was a deadline of June 30th for the Township's decision. This deadline turned out to be nothing more than a sales tactic intended to rush the Commissioners into not doing their due diligence.

Things to Mention:

  • Apex Energy tried to pressure the Commissioners to agree by rushing the process.

  • Apex Energy was flagged for 113 violations by the Department of Environmental Protection between 2018 and 2023. They would not be responsible stewards of public property.

  • In 2015, Allegheny County Council approved a subsurface fracking lease under Deer Lakes Park. In 2019, a team from Duquesne University found fracking surfactant chemicals in the surface water. Even when there is no direct surface disturbance, fracking chemicals do not stay constrained underground.

  • Public property exists for the benefit of the public, not for private profit.
