Tell  Attorney General Josh Shapiro to stop issuing permits to gas operators in violation of state and federal regulations.

We need your help! On January 18, 2019, Protect PT sent a letter to Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro. This letter and accompanying evidence show that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has been issuing new permits to operators who are not complying with state and federal laws.

In Summer of 2018, we requested that the DEP revoke the permits of operators who do not comply with state and federal laws. Instead of performing their duty, PA DEP continued to issue new permits to these operators.

We have asked the Attorney General to bring an enforcement suit against one operator for failing to comply with the Clean Streams Law since the DEP has failed to take proper action against this negligent operator and protect our waters. We also asked that the Attorney General investigate the conduct of the DEP and their systemic failure to uphold their mission.

The DEP’s first priority should be to fulfill their stated mission to “protect Pennsylvania’s air, land and water from pollution and to provide for the health and safety of its citizens through a cleaner environment” and to protect our constitutional rights to “clean air, pure water, and the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and aesthetic values of the environment.”

The DEP has failed to prioritize your health and the environment.

We also copied Governor Tom Wolf in our communications stating that we “feel that PA DEP is prioritizing industry over the health of the people, and as the leader of the highest office in Pennsylvania, this is also a reflection of the priorities of your administration.”
